I found a DUPE!

In the world of nail polish it is easy to find yourself having some nail polishes that are the same color. We call them dupes. Today I have a "dupe" for you. These two polishes are very similar, not exact dupes but close enough to have one or the other.

OPI Siberian Nights vs. Wet n Wild Megalast Disturbia

Now of course, there are some obvious differences. One being that Siberian Nights is a cream and Disturbia has a slight shimmer. Another is that Disturbia is a tad bit lighter. But to someone that doesn't know to much about nail polish- they are the same color.

Here is Disturbia.

Here is Siberian Nights.

The choice is yours. Do you want to pay less or more? Do you want a cream or a shimmer?

I also wanted to inform everyone that this will probably be the only post you will see this week. It is time for midterms which means studying is key. I will still do my nails and include them in a post next week. Until then, Bye!

Acid Wash Nails!

Sorry it has been so long since my last post. I took an unexpected trip where there was no wifi. Hopefully this post will make ip for lost time.

It's finally here! Today I attempted my first acid wash nails and I think I was pretty successful. For my base color I used Sinful Colors Precious Metal. Precious Metal is a deep blue metallic shimmer. And for my white I used Spoiled by Wet n Wild's Correction Tape.

Jen from polishandpearls.com has an amazing tutorial for this. If you have never visited her blog or youtube channel (missjenfabulous), you should go ahead and jump over there to see how I did this awesome manicure.

Here is the finished result of my version.

Disco Ball Mani

I used Sinful Colors Heavy Metal and LA Colors Silver Glitter for today's nails. Heavy Metal is a silver metallic shimmer that I just love. I purchased it a couple weeks ago when Walgreens was running a sale on them for 99 cents (haul post coming soon!). Silver Glitter is just that, silver glitter. It is such a great glitter polish that I would choose it over China Glaze Techno any day.

Here is the NOTD.

Good Karma

I love this color! Although it is more of a summer color, I had to try it out as well as see how I like the Spoiled by Wet n Wild collection. Well, I love it! Everything about it is amazing. The brush is wide, it is opaque in two coats, and it is only $1.99 at CVS. I am not such a big fan of it being a CVS exclusive because the closest CVS is about 15 minutes away. But for these polishes, it is worth the ride.

Here is a swatch of Good Karma. The pictures below are two coats and no topcoat.

DIY Caviar Manicure

Color Club Edie. Oh what can I say about you. Although I love the shade of green/blue, I absolutely hated the application. I have never worked with Color Club until now but if they are all like this... I am not a fan! I am still willing to try.

Here is a swatch of Edie alone. For the pictures below I did 3 coats of Edie followed by a coat of Seche Vite.

I wanted a little texture so I decided to do a caviar manicure on my ring finger. I used microbeads that I purchased at Michael's in the scrapbook section.

This is the final result.

TuTu Cute and Innocent

Today I have an easy manicure that could take up a little time if your a rookie like me. I started off with a basecoat followed by two coats of ULTA's TuTu Cute (light purple cream). I then taped off three quarters of my nail. Then I swiped a coat of Sinful Colors Innocent (lime green cream).

I also used Innocent to do som free hand on the purple side of my nail followed by a stripe of Sinful Colors Heavy Metal down the middle. For a top coat I used Seche Vite.

I am really proud of the final result.

Sorry for the camera quality. Sometimes it works great and others it doesn't. Let's just say I will be trying to find a new one that works very good ALL the time.

Ulta Nail Polish Haul!

Hi guys! I'm sorry I have been gone for a couple of days but I have just not been feeling well and did not have the energy to post. Anyways, It's time for a haul. I want to try to do a haul post every week so if you want that....comment please. So today's haul is from ULTA. Sinful Colors Purple Diamond

Today I have a pretty simple manicure for you. I started of with a basecoat followed by two coats of Sinful Colors Purple Diamond to all of my fingers except my ring finger. Purple Diamond is a very pretty sheer lilac loaded with some microglitter. Although it is a beautiful purple, I think it is probably more of a spring color.

On my ring finger I applied a three coats of Revlon's Phantom Angel. Phantom Angel is a very sheer milky white. On top of that I applied a franken glitter that has black, purple, yellow, and blue microglitter.

This is what it looks like.

SWATCH WHEELS

Swatch wheels are an essential that every nail addict shouldhave on hand. There are many good reasons any nail polish obsessed personshould have them, but maybe a downfall for other reasons.

One reason why you should have swatch wheels are so you knowwhat color the polish looks on the nail. Also if you do not keep your polishout in front of you, you know where to find it (I keep my polish in a Helmer and organized by color*). Like I said, there are a couple downfalls to having swatch wheels. One being that once you have swatched it you don’t like the color. And another being that you have bought a dupe. For example, if a couple months ago youbought an OPI color that cost you $8.50 and this month you bought a SallyHansen that cost you $1.99 and they were the same color (or very similar). Thenyou begin to regret buying the OPI polish because you could have saved about$6.00.
* I will be making a post about this soon.

It is labeled “Purples #1” because I had enough purplepolishes to start a second swatch wheel (which has happened for a lot of my wheels).

Outrageously Orange Ombré

Behold the Outrageously Orange Ombré manicure. I started this manicure with a basecoat followed by one coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White to make my ombré pop. For the ombré itself, I used: Wet n Wild Wild Shine- Sunny Side Up (light orange cream), Sinful Colors- Clementine (medium orange cream), and Spoiled by Wet n Wild- Let's Get Sushi (Orange/Coral with slight silver undertones). This is a picture of what the ombré looked like before I cleaned it up.

Although the ombré looked fine by itself, I decided to add some more orange with a Konad stamper. I used image plate SH21 from the Shany 2012 image plate set along with Wet n Wild Megalast's Heatwave for the design on top. It was my first time working with Heatwave other than swatching it, and although I knew it was a cream/jelly finish, I thought I would give it a try stamping (and it worked)!

Here is a picture if the results.

How I remove nail polish

Today I decided to share with you how I remove my nail polish. I use a cotton roll that I purchased from Sally's for around $3. I cut the cotton roll to the size of my nails and soak it in nail polish remover (I use a nail polish remover that has acetone in it, but is not pure acetone). I place the pieces on my nails as shown below. My ring finger also has aluminum foil on it because my ring finger had glitter.

I leave this on my nails for 2-3 minutes. I then put slight pressure on the cotton roll and my nails as I pull it off. Below is a picture of what the pieces of cotton roll look like when taken off.

Wet n Wild Megalast

If you love nail polish like I do, you will probably be able to understand that it can become an addiction. If there is anything I have learned while being a polishaholic, it is that you will probably end up buying nail polish anywhere it is sold. So my tip to you would be.... Shop where no nail polish is sold (that is if you do not want to end up becoming a nail polish addict).

In my attempt to stay away from nail polish for at least a few days, I found myself shopping at Loft. Well let's just say my mom loves Loft. I have no clue why, but I thought I would join her. So we went to the checkout line and out of the corner of my eye I saw something shiny. I looked and it was a pair of flip flops with a few rhinestones on them. So I was looking at them and sitting right next to them was nail polish!

Good thing those babies were expensive for how little they were or I would have adopted them. Although my trip to Loft was a no buy nail polish success, I suddenly had the craving for nothing else but nail polish. I decided to indulge. Let's just say that nail polish is hard to stay away from.

While I still had the munchies for a few bottles of nail polish, I begged my mom for a trip to the drugstore (she wont have to tote me around for much longer). I ended up grabbing mostly all the polishes from the Wet n Wild Megalast collection. For $1.99 each, how could I resist?

From left to right is: Candy-licious, Tropicalia, I Red a Good Book, Heatwave, Club Havana, I Need a Refresh-Mint, On a Trip, Through the Grapevine, Disturbia, Under Your Spell, Wet Cement.
